Introduction

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Government Medical College Solapur located in D block of Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sarvopchar Rugnalay, Solapur is serving patients with Tuberculosis and Chest diseases coming not only from Solapur district but also from neighbouring districts of Marathwada , Karnataka and Telangana
This Department was running postgraduate course that is Diploma and MD in  TB & Chest diseases from 1989 to 1993 but course was discontinued due to lack of Human resources. A new proposal to start postgraduate course in MD  Respiratory Medicine which will be affiliated to Maharashtra             University of Health Sciences, Nashik for Academic year 2018-19 is submitted to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
The ability of a physician to help suffering human beings with the knowledge and skill S/he has acquired through years of hardwork and training makes this field rewarding and satisfying. In today’s era of modern lifestyle and increasing health awareness amongst the population the role of chest physician is expanding from specialist to  health educator , a nutritionist and a counselor.
